PedalYak 2012
A HEARTFELT thank you to each and every participant in the July 14 PedalYak, either as a PedalYaker or a volunteer.
We were lucky enough to receive a God-given miracle of mostly fine, warm weather (on a day surrounded by wet and cold days). The spirit of camaraderie and shared purpose was beautiful.
There were a couple of “First aid events” but by all reports, everyone is okay. Thank you to the volunteers who helped with care and organising things - you really did look out for each other. Thank you also to the St John’s Ambulance crew - you may or may not know but they are volunteers just like us and did a truly professional job.
At the end of their journey participants were welcomed by the sights, sounds and smells of the colourful “little tent village” - with music pumping from
ACU Wired, marquees from our local schools of St Joseph’s and St Pius (it would not have been possible without these generous donations), sausages cooking and the cheering of friends and family. The PedalYak would not have happened without all of this involvement and assistance.
Thank you Pedalyakers for working hard on the day and working harder beforehand. Sometimes it is hard to ask for funds, make that phone call to follow up a friend, or send that email. Hopefully, after your achievements you feel it was all worth it.
Thank you also to the team that helped with the planning and organising - setting up websites, bank accounts, chasing up sponsors and supplies, and all sorts of things, the early starters who helped get us ready, the volunteers who stood on the crossings and followed us in their “tinny” and kept us safe. Also thanks to those who registered us and kept track of everyone and donations, at the start and the turnaround, and during the event - the cooks and servers, the helpers, friends and family who supported each other, ACU Wired for keeping us entertained and helping with announcements, and last but not least those who stayed behind and came back to help clean up and pack up.
“Being part of Pedal Yak for Samoa was a trimly inspirational event. From the outset, I witnessed a communal sharing of generosity — the setting up of marquees, the transportation of equipment, the sizzling of the sausages, the time spared to run/cycle/walk or yak, the abundance of smiles, laughter, tears (mostly of joy), friendship, hugs, donations, encouraging words, sweat, stink and JOY! Yes - JOY - that subconscious acquiescence to Jesus, others and then lastly ... Yourself.
I am so excited to have borne witness to the manifestation of the Holy Spirit, guiding us closer and closer to SYMI3!
Special thanks to Jack Greathead (one of our youth Dads) for envisioning and coordinating the whole event! You made it look easy.”
